Another painting I've been working on at my Friday evening art classes. This took several Friday evenings, but it's done at last. I only scanned this a few days ago, and even with Autostitch and Adobe Photoshop, it lost a little in translation from the orignal to a digital copy. Anyway...
This is Bleak House, the old house that overlooks the coastline of Broadstairs - formally called Fort House for obvious reason, but now known as Bleak House after one of the novels of the famous Charles Dickens, who once lived in this old place for a time. Until a few years ago, Bleak House was also a musuem, which I used to like seeing sometimes. One room (known as the Maritime Room) was full of old relics salvalged from the wreck of the disaster that was the Titanic, all carefully preserved. The other rooms were presented as they would have appeared when Dickens lived here. And then below-stairs they had the Smuggler's Cellar... which says it all. Indeed, Broadstairs and the local coasts were popular havens for smugglers in the old days, hiding their contraband liquor, tobacco and lace in various caves and cellars around here. Sadly, nowadays, the museum is closed and Bleak House is privately owned.
The only thing I added to this picture with the flag, which wasn't in the original photo I copied this from. There is a flagpole on the roof of Bleak House, and they do fly the Union Jack from it. I just can't remember where exactly it is. Still, I thought it would be a nice touch!
Completed with watercolour paints, watercolour pencils and a sprinkling of salt to create the texture.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
